Danbury was built by immigrants. From the Irish, Portuguese, Italians, and Eastern European Jews who powered the hat factories of the 1800s to today’s newcomers from Latin America, Asia, and Africa, our city’s growth has always depended on the contributions of people seeking opportunity, safety, and a better future. Today’s immigrants bring that same determination—but face modern barriers such as language gaps, legal uncertainties, limited access to healthcare and education, and social isolation. These challenges leave too many hardworking families unable to fully participate in the civic and economic life of our community.
That’s where The New American Dream Foundation comes in. Established in 2016 by the Bacelar-Palmares Family as the philanthropic arm of Tribuna Newspaper, TNADF works to provide access to education, health services, civic engagement opportunities, and community support programs throughout the Greater Danbury area.
By fostering connections and offering culturally responsive resources, we empower individuals and families to embrace their unique stories and contribute to a stronger, more inclusive community, redefining the American Dream, one story at a time.
Launched in 2023, the New American Dream Center is the front door to that mission. Located in the heart of Danbury, the Center provides free, multilingual, by-appointment support that includes personalized coaching and navigation of social services through a trusted network of local and statewide partners.
The Center houses two core programs: Newcomers and New Americans.
Through the Newcomers Program, we guide individuals through every step of settling into life in our community—offering one-on-one support to help them gather and organize documents, access healthcare, apply for jobs, and connect with training and educational opportunities for themselves and their children.

The New American Dream Center
A community resource center serving all immigrants

The New Americans Program supports immigrants on their path to citizenship by helping them assess their eligibility, providing one-on-one coaching and tutoring to prepare for the naturalization process, and, when needed, covering USCIS application fees through grants for low-income families. The program also includes Celia’s Closet, a community closet that provides free professional attire to individuals preparing for their citizenship interviews—ensuring they feel confident and dignified on one of the most important days of their lives.
With hundreds of individuals already served since opening, the New American Dream Center is more than a resource hub—it is a trusted bridge between newcomers and the tools, knowledge, and human connections they need to belong, thrive, and contribute to our country.
